Traditional BSN Track

Starting in the sophomore year, this three-year prelicensure option is for beginning undergraduate students who would like to pursue a career in nursing. Students in the Traditional BSN Track complete coursework emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance. The curriculum reflects the current trends in nursing education, focusing on wellness/illness concepts and the delivery of care in both hospital and community-based settings. Upon completion of the program, graduates of the Traditional BSN Track are eligible to take the National NCLEX Examination, a requirement for RN licensure.

Second Degree Accelerated BSN Track

This 18-month prelicensure option is for students who have obtained a previous bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field and want to become a registered nurse. Like students on the Traditional BSN Track, learners in the Accelerated BSN program also complete coursework emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance. The curriculum reflects the current trends in nursing education, focusing on wellness/illness concepts and the delivery of care in both hospital and community-based settings. Upon completion of the program, Accelerated BSN Track graduates are eligible to take the National NCLEX Examination, a requirement for RN licensure.

Application information for both the Traditional and Accelerated BSN Tracks at IU Columbus may be found on the IU Columbus Division of Health Sciences website. The admission process is competitive, and acceptance depends on the number of applicants and the individual's ability to compete academically in the larger pool of applicants.
